TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Hollywood Casino Toledo was given the green light to open May 29, and local law enforcement agencies are circling that date to put traffic control plans into action.

The main areas of concern are I-75, Miami Street and Dixie Highway in Rossford.

"The first few weeks of the casino opening we're going to have quite a few extra vehicles that the community the size of Rossford on St. Rt. 65, it's going to be a lot more than we're used to," says Rossford Police Chief Glenn Goss.

He says two overflow lots with shuttle service are being planned at the Rossford Rec Center and at the high school during evening hours.

Goss says a traffic rerouting plan is formed in case of heavy traffic:

"We'll reroute them back to I-75 by going south on Glenwood Road back to Buck Road and returning to I-75 north then they'll get back off at Miami."

But will the increased traffic be a big problem or a blessing? Opinions vary, and EJ Jones says it'll be a serious concern for him:

"The traffic getting to the freeway and off the freeway, that's the main thing. They put up traffic lights and it's already backing up and there's no traffic at the casino yet. It's going to be a pain."

Rossford businessman Harpo Haddad doesn't agree:

"More traffic's never a bad thing. In fact, we're always looking for new ways to get traffic into town, we get a place then everybody complains about it. I think it'll be a good thing for the community."

Goss believes the most challenging times will be during afternoon rush hour when casino traffic combines with the drive home from work.
