(Toledo News Now) - Springfield Township officials said an answer could be coming any moment as they wait to hear from Columbus about the McCord Road underpass project.
The McCord Road underpass railroad project was originally slated for next year, but because of Ohio budget cuts, it was pushed back several years.
Holland, Springfield Township and Lucas County officials went down to Columbus last month to plead their case. They worry postponing the project means it will never happen. They are hoping money from ODOT's Transportation Review Advisory Committee will come through so the underpass project can start as soon as possible.
"It's not just one community that this is important to. There are several entities that this is important to. It's important to our businesses, to our residents. Our county got involved," said Leslie Kohli, Springfield Township administrator.
If the funding fails to come through, officials will apply for a tiger grant. However, Kohli said that will probably leave a gap between $8 and $10 million in which they would have to come up with the additional money.
