A controlled demonstration allows for everyone involved to practice, from casino employees to police officers.
TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Hollywood Casino Toledo officially opens its doors to the public May 29. The casino is hosting a controlled demonstration Thursday to prepare for the grand opening.
Approximately 6,500 invited guests will visit the casino at different times throughout the day.
The Ohio Casino Control Commission will be watching operations closely, especially money flow, to make sure the casino is ready for opening day.
"The state has to make sure that every penny is accounted for in a casino. We've established exhaustive regulations to track every dollar as it goes from one place to the other. Today we're going to test all those procedures to make sure they work before they open," said Pete Silverman, an OCCC board member.
"They will be playing with currency today, all the way through midnight. Their team will do a drop of the floor. It'll go through the count room and into the main bank, all the way through their tax payment to the state," said Matt Schuler, executive director of the OCCC.
The casino must successfully run through the soft open event in order to open for business.
"It's a final hurdle and in Cleveland, they did detect some procedural problems and they had to correct those between the controlled opening and the opening as a condition to opening," said Silverman.
The event also allows practice for guests coming and going, employee shift changes, plus Toledo and Rossford police monitoring traffic patterns. The OCCC will review all aspects with casino management Friday.
Proceeds from the event will be going to charities, including the YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club.
