Lake Township, OH (Toledo News Now) – It has been two years since a tornado hit Lake Township, killing seven people and damaging hundreds of buildings. On the anniversary, people in the area said they are taking the time to remember.

People in Lake Township still feel a sense of sadness and loss. Even though it has been two years, they said they are still shaken by what the tornado did to their community. Still, they said they are also grateful for what they have today.

"My son was in his room and the ceiling started coming through. He luckily ran down [in] the basement. My neighbor's house behind me was gone," said John Pratt, a tornado victim.

A quick look at Pratt's neighborhood and one would never know it was hit by a tornado two years ago. Pratt said he and his neighbors will never forget.

"Trees all over. A couple of our cars blew in the field. I had a trampoline wrapped in what was left of one of my trees, looked like a birds nest," said Pratt.

On this two-year anniversary of the tornado, people in Lake Township said they are taking time to remember the destruction and the community outreach that followed.

"People even that weren't damaged were helping each other and I think it did bring a lot of people closer and made them realize what the important things were: is your community and the people in your community," said Pratt.

Destruction was not limited to homes, the entire emergency dispatch center was demolished. Still, police said that was not the worst of it.

"Homes, cars, and buildings can be rebuilt. We lost seven people that night and those are the things that cannot be replaced. That's what this is really all about: is people," said Lake Township Police Chief Mark Hummer.

On Tuesday night, Lake Township will hold a memorial service to remember those lost.

Trustees said they are also moving forward with a movie about the tornado and its damage.

"Everybody had an experience that night. We had people that lost everything helping people who still had something to salvage. Those stories are very important," said Hummer.

Stories the community said it will fight to preserve.
