Dozens of local veterans are heading to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport this Wednesday morning for a very special trip to the nation's capital.
Honor Flight Tri-State, a local organization created to honor America's veterans, is gearing up for a free trip to visit the World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War and US Air Force memorials in Washington, D.C.
The honor flights are all expense paid trips to the memorials for a day. The non-profit organization sponsors the trips because organizers say many veterans cannot afford a trip to Washington, D.C. and are unable to visit the memorials that were built for them.
Organizers also say the trip it is a gift to show the veterans appreciation for putting their lives on the line for our country.
Cheryl Popp, director of Honor Flight Tri-State, says the organization has raised enough funds, thanks to their sponsors, to take 400 veterans in 2012.
If you are a World War II or Korean veteran and are interested in taking a flight, please call Honor Flight Tri-State hotline at (513) 277-9626.
Veterans who are interested in going will have to fill out an application. Veterans may take a family member (other than a spouse) on the trip.
