MARGARETTA TOWNSHIP, OH (TOLEDO NEWS NOW) - A huge barn fire closed US-6 Monday night while crews from several surrounding townships battled the blaze.
It happened in Margaretta Township, which is west of Sandusky. Two buildings were destroyed including a cattle barn. No people were hurt, but emergency crews say several cows died in the blaze.
Investigators think a lightning strike earlier on Monday may have caused a small fire to smolder for hours before erupting into larger flames around 10 p.m.
Firefighters battled the blaze for hours because flames kept re-igniting. The fire is now out, but crews remain on on scene Monday morning to monitor for flare ups.
