FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) - A Michigan man is behind bars, accused of aggravated robbery after police say he opened fire inside a Findlay gas station.
Robert Reese, 30, of Bellville, MI, was arrested early Tuesday after robbing the Imperial Marathon gas station on West Main Cross Street just before 1:30 a.m.
The clerk said he was approached by a man with a black mask covering his face and holding a gun. The clerk behind the counter was the only employee working at the time and complied with the suspect's demands of cash and cartons of cigarettes.
Numerous rounds of ammunition were fired by the suspect during the robbery at the cash register and a closed, locked door. Store employees believe Reese thought surveillance video was kept inside and that he wanted to grab all the evidence he could before he left.
The suspect then fled the store with an undetermined amount of money and cigarettes, according to the clerk. By the time Reese tried to leave the gas station, authorities had gotten a call about a suspicious situation and were already outside waiting for him. They apprehended him and recovered a gun.
No one was injured during the robbery.
Reese is being held in the Hancock County Justice Center and could face first-degree felony charges of aggravated robbery.
