TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – Toledo Police are investigating a break-in, but it is how the criminals got into the home that makes it unusual.

It happened along Lucas Street in central Toledo. Police said the burglars broke in by stacking city garbage cans, then climbing in through a second-story window. The downstairs windows are barred, so the thieves resorted to climbing the garbage cans to get inside.

A hole is left in the window screen and three trash cans remain next to the home. This all happened while the homeowner was away Wednesday night between 10 and 10:30.

The suspects took two flat-screen televisions, purses, shoes and a lap top.

The homeowner said he is just glad no one was hurt. His family has lived in the home for about six months and are now looking to move.

Police said they have seen this sort of crime before, as thieves get creative to steal belongings. They want to remind residents to keep an eye out for unusual behavior.
