TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – Toledo News Now has obtained video showing moments just after an off-duty Walbridge police officer shot and killed a man in Toledo.
In the video, a Toledo police officer hears that a man has been shot on Upton Avenue over the radio scanner. The officer had just arrested a man in an unrelated case less than a block away from the scene and makes a U-turn to head in the direction of the shooting.
The shooting involved Walbridge Police Officer Matthew Moreland, who was walking with a friend to the friend's house when police said Travis Johnson, 21, tried to rob the men at gunpoint.
According to police, Moreland pulled out a personal gun and shot at Johnson six times, killing him. The video shows that Moreland then performed CPR on Johnson.
It is also possible to hear Moreland explain to the Toledo police officer that he is an off-duty officer.
The case was presented to a grand jury but no indictment was handed down. The prosecutor's office said there will be no further investigation into the death of Johnson.
