David Klotz, 50, of Toledo was in court Friday on charges he violated a protection order, but police say Klotz's crimes go farther than that.
"He is a professional con artist and life long criminal. He knows the line to walk," said Toledo Police Sergeant Tim Noble.
Klotz was in Toledo Municipal Court Friday to face charges he violated a protection order by placing a collect call from jail to a woman he is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from.
David Ball of Maumee says Klotz offered to buy his home, and even claimed he could pay cash. Klotz was so convincing Ball's family began to move out of the home before they realized it was a scam.
"The guy is convincing to a point of being scary. I think the guy believes in himself is part of the issue and I still can't believe that this is real," said Ball.
Toledo Police say they are currently working to bring more charges against Ball, including felony fraud.
