Toledo will host Navy Week activities from August 20 to the 27, a week that will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.
Northwest Ohio played a significant role in the war, which is why Navy officials say they chose Toledo as one of the stops on this year's Navy Week tour.
"A lot of the qualities and skills that were in our sailors then, 200 years ago exist today in our sailors and officers. We go around celebrating the war of 1812 it's especially important to be here in Toledo; not only because was it a momentous and significant event with the battle of Lake Erie, but it was also a great Army victory at Fort Meigs just south of here," said U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Gregory Nosal.
Navy Week will run from August 20 to the 27, with Navy ships coming to the Port of Toledo on August 23.
