UPDATE: OH man accused of NC slaying may be in Columbus
Police on Monday confirmed a body discovered in a vacant lot was 33-year-old Lynn Jackenheimer of Ashland, OH.
An arrest warrant for Nate Summerfield was issued once the body was identified.
ASHLAND, Ohio (AP) - Police say Nate Summerfield may be in the Columbus, Ohio area. A warrant was issued for his arrest following the ID of his ex-girlfriend's body in North Carolina.
A witness told police she saw Summerfield and his car at a Columbus apartment complex Tuesday. But when officers showed up, he was gone.
Summerfield is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the strangulation and stabbing death of 33-year-old Lynn Jackenheimer of Ashland, Ohio.
Police on Monday confirmed a body discovered in a vacant lot in North Carolina was Jackenheimer. She went missing early this month during a vacation with her children and Nate Summerfield, who friends describe as an on-again-off-again boyfriend.
Police say he returned the children to Ashland and apparently drove away.
Summerfield's brother has told authorities that Summerfield said he strangled the woman. The cause of death, which hasn't been released, would officially determine whether the case is a homicide.
A warrant for Summerfield was issued once the body was identified. He previously was described as a person of interest in the case.
