Jose Moya Jr. turned himself over to police Tuesday afternoon. Moya was sought by police in the murder of 21-year-old Leandra Frankum. Frankum was shot and killed on Broad St. in Perrysburg Township early Sunday morning.
In an exclusive interview with Toledo News Now, Moya's layer says he is maintaining his innocence.
"He wants the truth to come out and he is not combating me or the detectives and he is cooperative and he wants the truth to come out and justice be served," said Omar Shaaban, Moya's lawyer.
Moya turned himself in to police on Shaaban's advice after showing up to his office Tuesday.
"I got a phone call from a previous client of mine that knows Mr. Moya and he told me that Mr. Moya wanted to contact me so I told him have him call me right away which he did. When he did, I told him first thing first, you have to come to my office and talk to me. He came to me and he explained to me what had happened and my first advice to him was to turn himself in and let the investigation take its course," said Shaaban.
Perrysburg Township Police have a different view of what happened that night, and have charged Moya with murder.
"He will be arraigned in Perrysburg municipal court tomorrow morning, then the judge will determine whether there is probable cause and he will be bound over to a Wood County grand jury," said Sergeant Detective James Gross of the Perrysburg Township Police Department. "He is currently charged with murder."
Police are still looking for Moya's younger brother, Raul, who they say helped him run.
