Perrysburg chooses Texas company to replace TARTA

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A Perrysburg City Council committee voted to recommend that council hire a company out of Dallas, TX to replace the city's TARTA service Tuesday.

Council has been looking for a replacement of the bus service since voters chose to opt out of the regional transit system in March.

Council had narrowed the list of possibilities to M.V. Transportation of Dallas and Black and White Cab Company in Toledo. Councilman Todd Grayson says the decision to recommend M.V. Transportation was made because the company plans to set up an office in Perrysburg.  Black and White had planned to run Perrysburg operations out of their existing Toledo facility.

"MV is actually proposing to come in, take a local facility inside Perrysburg, do local service, have a local manager. So in a backward sense, they were actually going to be a little more local than even Black and White," said Grayson.

The full Perrysburg City Council will vote on whether to begin negotiations with M.V. Transportation at a meeting next Tuesday.  The service will be dependent on Perrysburg voters approving a 1.45 mil levy on November 6.
