Bowling Green Police arrested two men they say were spotted attempting to steal copper wiring from a BG business Wednesday night.
Police say scrap metal theft has been on the rise in BG recently, so police have stepped up patrols in areas scrappers often hit. They say it was one of those added patrols that spotted 33-year-old Shane Ludwig, of Weston, OH and 26-year-old Joseph Taylor of Cygnet, OH in a fenced off area of Frontier Communications in BG just after midnight Wednesday. Police say the two were attempting to steal spools of copper wire from the business.
Bowling Green Police Lieutenant Brad Biller says citizens can help police catch scrappers and other thieves.
"As part of the whole community policing process, we encourage anybody who sees anything that might be out of sorts to contact law enforcement and have them investigate," said Biller.
Both Ludwig and Taylor are facing 5th degree felony charges, and could face up to a year in prison if convicted.
