BENTON TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) – The Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday night around 9:30. The crash occurred in Ottawa County on state Route 2 at state Route 579.
Adam Lay, 18, of Wilmington, OH, was driving a Chevrolet Suburban and attempted to turn left onto SR 2 from SR 579. Lay failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and Katie Katich, 28, of Oak Harbor, OH, who was driving a Chevrolet Impala eastbound on SR 2, struck Lay's car on the driver's side.
Lay's car sustained heavy damage to the left side. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Katich's car sustained heavy front-end damage. She was flown to a Toledo hospital with life-threatening injuries. She was not wearing her seat belt.
The crash is still under investigation. No citations have been issued at this time.
