TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Toledo Public School leaders say they do not recall a time when they have had this many open positions. The district is holding a job fair this week, as it seeks to fill about 100 jobs.
This is the first time Toledo Public Schools has held this sort of job fair. The district has an unusually high number of openings due to retirements and so far, has not had as many applicants as it would like. The fair will provide a chance for candidates to speak with department heads to learn more about the positions and qualifications.
The fair will take place Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Waite Brand Auditorium located at 1530 North Superior Street. People attending should be prepared to apply for the positions.
TPS is looking to fill about 100 positions, including many substitute teachers, substitute bus drivers, food service workers, clerical staff members and substitute cleaners. Although many of these are part-time positions, some involve a lot of hours and can lead to full time positions in the future.
"We've gone the traditional routes to try to bring people into TPS, but I think it's important they come in and see the different kinds of jobs and talk one on one with the directors to see exactly what they're going to do," said Cheryl Spieldenner, TPS chief human resources officer.
TPS officials say they plan to move quickly on these applications to set up interviews. They hope to hire before the start of the school year.
If you aren't able to make it to the job fair Wednesday, you can always fill out an application online.
