Larry ClementTOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - A man charged with abusing a corpse learned his punishment Tuesday morning.
Larry Clement, 57, of Temperance, MI, was sentenced to a year in prison after being arrested earlier this year and pleading no contest to abusing a corpse.
A judge posted Clement's bond at $50,000. After a few hours, it had been paid and Clement was released from jail the same day.
Clement was a nonlicensed, part-time employee at H.H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home in west Toledo at the time of the incident. He has been fired since then.
Another funeral home employee witnessed the abuse. When the funeral home became aware of the incident, staff made the decision to tell the family before going to the police. Family members of the 51-year-old victim said they first learned about what happened two days later. Once hearing what happened, they immediately called the police.
The victim was laid to rest days later at a different funeral home.
