
TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Salvation Army will be accepting applications for backpack and school supply assistance Aug. 14 and 15.
By providing basic school supplies and a new backpack, the Salvation Army hopes to even the playing field for children in grades 1 through 12, who may not otherwise be able to start school with the supplies they need for academic success. The free program is called "Tools for School."
The Salvation Army, along with their community partners, collected around 2,200 backpacks full of school supplies to prepare for the program.
"It's important for our kids to succeed. They're only gonna succeed if they have the proper tools to do so. And if the parents, the families, need help with that, then that's why we feel we can step in and provide some of that assistance," said Capt. Kevin Zanders with the Salvation Army.
Applications are being accepted from 9 to 11 a.m., as well as 1 to 3 p.m. at the Salvation Army location at 620 N. Erie Street in Toledo.
The parent or guardian must bring the follow in order to qualify:
The parent or guardian will be given a card with the date and time they should come back for distribution. No applications will be accepted for backpack supplies during distribution.
