SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) - Church community members come together Wednesday to help out families with their back to school needs.
Members of the Holland Free Methodist Church handed out backpacks filled with school supplies to help 200 children and their families cut costs.
"It's incredibly expensive, you can easily drop 100 dollars or more on two kids, so helping out with backpacks, and just you know, paper, pencils, folders, anything for the basic things we can help eliminate maybe 10, 15 dollars off of what they need or more is just wonderful," said Christy Winckles.
Parents are thankful and appreciate the generosity of the community.
"Oh it helps us tremendously, because I'm a single mom and I've got three kids so it's very expensive to buy the school supplies, and yeah it helps out a lot especially in hard times," said Jennifer Hafner.
Springfield Township was one of the areas hit hardest in this year's storm and coordinators of the program say their goal to help families get back on their feet.
"I live in the neighborhood that was hit the hardest, by those storms, and I was really excited that our church could be a place where people could come, seek refuge who lost everything. So I hope this is a way that we can continue to help them rebuild," said Andrew Winckles.
Members of the church hope they can help provide school supplies to even more families next year.
