FULTON COUNTY, OH (TOLEDO NEWS NOW) - Two crashes happened early Wednesday on the eastbound Ohio Turnpike in Fulton County. They created a massive traffic jam for several hours.
All of the eastbound lanes of the Turnpike have reopened. The westbound lanes never closed.
The first crash happened around 1 a.m. when a semi hit a tow truck that was assisting a flat bed on the side of the highway. Three people were taken to the hospital in that crash. The driver of the tow truck is said to be in critical condition.
The second crash happened as a chain reaction from the first crash, around 1:30 a.m. Police tell us a semi rear-ended two other semis that were stopped for the first crash.
An air ambulance was called to the scene of the second crash to transport one patient. Two other people were taken to the hospital by ground ambulance. First responders say it appears everyone will survive the second crash.
Paint cans, or a similar material, spilled across the highway. Another truck was carrying produce.
