
Six Toledo firefighters were promoted in a special ceremony at One Government Center Friday morning.TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Six Toledo firefighters were recognized for their service Friday morning with a ceremony in City Council chambers.
The room was full of friends, family members, and coworkers to support the hard work and dedication of the firefighters.
The department promoted:
-Battalion Chief Capt. Bryce Blair Jr.
-Capt. Lt. Michael Benadum
-Capt. Lt. Mark Benadum
-Lt. Private Jeremy Vedra
-Lt. Private Matthew Viertlbeck
-Lt. Private Robert Swartz
After they were sworn in, family members got to participate in a special part of the ceremony. The promoted firefighters told stories about working for the fire department and thanked their families for putting up with the long hours. They also promised to serve to the best of their abilities.
Fire Chief Luis Santiago said it is more than a ceremony, it is a big opportunity for the city of Toledo.
"We have a difficult task to do everyday. And in those tasks, we need solid leadership to be successful at those tasks. So it's very important that we promote the best," said Santiago.
