TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – The Douglas ramp to eastbound Interstate 475 will be opening soon and it is welcomed news to area drivers.
The Douglas ramps have been a constant inconvenience for people who work and live in the area, but good news is on the way.
The off ramp has opened, and the on ramp should be opening soon. Ohio Department of Transportation officials said it could open as soon as next Friday.
The ramp was closed in February after it was briefly opened for two months, as part of ODOT's massive I-475 widening project. The Douglas ramps had to be expanded outward.
The reopening is on schedule; ODOT officials expected the ramp to reopen in August back in February.
In the meantime, drivers have had to take Monroe to Secor as a detour, which drivers said has tacked on extra time.
"School is starting, and work. It will be so much more convenient, and we're just welcoming to have it open again," said David Heckman, who lives near the ramp.
ODOT officials said the reopening means they are moving closer to the next phase of the I-475 widening project, which will send traffic outward to the new lanes.
