TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - A series of car break-ins have happened around West Toledo in the area of Central Ave. and Douglas Rd. There have been six different break-ins in the last 20 days. Toledo police believe all of them are related.
Nick Amrhein, an independent photographer, fell victim to the thieves Monday. Amrhein had his car broken into and $10,000 worth of camera equipment stolen.
"It's been a nightmare, like the first thing you know was I gotta get the window fixed, so I get the window fixed. And then you gotta, try to remember everything you had from accessories, to batteries, to lenses, to flashes, everything I have and in detail just so I can make a report to the police accurate," said Amrhein.
Police say several neighborhoods have been targeted.
"Well we believe it's the same person because these 6 break-ins within the last 20 days have been in the same basic geographic area, or radius, right around the Central, Douglas area, and just how they're doing it,' said Toledo Police Sgt. Joe Heffernan.
Toledo Police are now monitoring the area.
"We have a lot of different assets that we can use. From cameras, to unmarked, undercover detectives, to patrol saturations, so we're doing all those things in this area right now," said Sgt. Heffernan.
Any information regarding the break-ins or suspicious activity can be reported to CrimeStopper at 419-255-1111.
