TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – Thieves left a central city church hot after stealing the air conditioning unit Friday. It happened at the Christian Love Fellowship Ministry in the 300 block of Junction Street.
Police say the thought of someone stealing from a church is appalling, but is something they are seeing more and more in central Toledo. According to police, there has been a series air conditioning unit thefts from churches in the central city.
At the Christian Love Fellowship, thieves cut locks and fencing to remove the entire unit.
Police say large units house more copper than small home units, which thieves scrap for cash.
"What they're doing is they're causing quite a bit of damage. Some of these commercial air conditioning units are very costly to repair. While they may only get a hundred, $200 worth of value for scrap for an air conditioning unit, it's going to cost thousands and thousands of dollars to repair," said Sgt. Joe Heffernan with the Toledo Police.
