TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The city's newest high school is getting close to its first day of school. The Nexus Academy of Toledo starts classes in one week.

The charter school is located downtown and workers are busy preparing it for next week, putting together furniture, preparing technology, even attaching doors.

Nexus Academy combines online and onsite learning, offering flexible schedules. The school can enroll between 250 to 300 students. About 50 students have already enrolled. Enrollment will stay open for the next few weeks.

The school's leaders are inviting anyone with questions or paperwork to drop by the building. They will be there from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. All week. There will even be a breakfast Thursday and a pizza party Friday. Additionally, organizers will be there Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

Andrea Weilacher, Nexus School Leader, said she is excited to get started.

"We're going to have a good mix of students. We're going to have enough that we can get the feel of how things go, establish the school, establish an environment and culture, and we'll grow from there," said Weilacher.

Weilacher said she is ready to work with whatever happens and make sure the school focuses on the students.
