1 dead in Whiteford Twp tractor trailer crash

WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP, MI (Toledo News Now) - One person is dead after an accident involving two tractor trailers in Whiteford Township, Michigan. 

Preliminary investigation indicated a tractor trailer was westbound on US-223 and collided into the rear of a second tractor trailer, which was turning left onto southbound Creque Road from westbound US-223. The tractor trailer turning left, rotated and came to rest on the south shoulder of US-223 facing east. The other tractor trailer left the north side of US-223, rolled over and burst into flames, trapping the driver inside.

The driver who died in the fire has been identified as Michael John Andrews, 33, of Monroe, MI.

The driver of the other tractor trailer has been identified as Randolph M. Perdue, 61, of Swea City, IA. Perdue was not injured in the crash.

Eastbound US-223 traffic remains closed at US-223 and Memorial Highway and is being diverted onto Memorial Highway. Eastbound US-223 is closed at Sylvania Petersburg Road and traffic is being diverted southbound onto Sylvania Petersburg Road.
