BELLEVUE, OH (Toledo News Now) – Bellevue Middle School and Elementary were placed on lockdown for a short time Wednesday after a man blew a stop sign near the school and eluded police.

Police say a man driving a van failed to yield at a stop sign near the school.  When police tried to pull the man over, he did not stop and eventually escaped. Police say they know who the man is, and have had encounters with him in the past. The man is believed to have some type of mental illness, and is not considered a danger to the public, police said.

A helicopter and search dogs were used in attempts to locate the man, but police say the man is still at large.

The lockdown has been lifted as police say they do not believe anyone at the school is in danger.
