CLYDE, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Eastern Sandusky County cancer cluster affected 35 children and another Clyde child has been diagnosed with cancer. Three year old Isaac Advey was diagnosed with kidney cancer in July.
There will be a fundraiser held to help the Advey family raise money for the weekly chemo sessions Isaac is facing. The fundraiser will be on Friday, September 21st and will run from noon to 5 P.M. The fundraiser will be held at the Journey Church in Clyde.
Warren Brown is the father of Alexa. Alexa was one of the 35 children diagnosed with cancer. Alexa passed away in 2009.
The childhood cancer cluster sparked the investigation of 14 dump sites. The Environmental Protection Agency results showed that 13 of the 14 sites did not pose any threat to the human health. The other one is still under investigation. Brown said he is not sure if this case is related to the childhood cancer cluster, but it does raise concern.
"For another case to pop up in the Clyde area, certainly leaves some room for considerable, and mindful consideration as to whether this is related...is there something environmentally unsound? We've been told no," said Warren Brown, Alexa's father.
