Findlay launching downtown fire task force committee

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) - Findlay has launched a downtown fire task force committed to inspecting older buildings. The group was formed as a direct response to the Argyle fire back in February.

The task force is still in its infant stages but right now they are focused on increasing the amount of fire inspections to older downtown businesses with the hopes of preventing any fires.

The task force will consist of two firemen who will report to the city fire inspector in addition to the fire chief.

One of the group's goals is to increase pre-incident fire planning. They plan to accomplish this with triage fire code inspections. Fireman will be walking through buildings themselves to become familiar with the structures and any potential risks.

"We just need to know what condition these buildings are in you know what hazards are there for us and there for the tenants and go after the most critical ones," said Findlay Fire Safety Inspector Ric Habegger.

The city fire inspector has been speaking with business owners to get their input on possibly creating some sort of fee for repeat violators.
