SANDUSKY, OH (Toledo News Now) - Curtis Clinton appeared before a judge by video for his arraignment Tuesday morning. He is charged with the aggravated murders of Heather Jackson and her two children.

Clinton, 41, is still at the Erie County Jail. His bond was set at $3,025,000. He did not make a plea Tuesday; the case is continued to Sept. 18 when a plea will be entered.

The Erie County prosecutor said a special grand jury will convene next week and will consider making this a death penalty case.

The bodies of Jackson, 23,, her 3-year-old daughter, Celina, and 18-month-old son, Wayne, were found inside Jackson's home on John Street in Sandusky Saturday night. According to a preliminary autopsy report by the Erie County coroner, the cause of death was ligature strangulation, which means a material like a string or rope was used. Toxicology test results will take six to eight weeks to complete.

People have been visiting the house to pay respects or leave a stuffed animal.

Samantha Hartley was a friend and bridesmaid for Jackson.

"It's just unreal that it even happened. She was such a good person. She would always be there to help anybody. God gained three wonderful angels," said Hartley.

Clinton was arrested Monday afternoon in the Sandusky area. Police said they received a tip that Clinton was at a hospital in Bellevue.

Police interviewed Clinton at the police station and charged him with the murders. Police believe Clinton was invited into the home since he was a friend to Jackson but say they do not know the motive yet.

"We don't have any reason for this to happen, so the community has a right to be outraged or happy that this got resolved as quickly as possible.," said Lt. John Orzech with the Sandusky Police.

Jackson's brother, Nick Fee, has his own thoughts on the arrest.

"I'm mad that they beat me to it and that's the gist of that. To me it's a letdown, I don't know. I'll have to get my satisfaction other ways I guess," said Fee.

Clinton is also charged with one count of rape for an unrelated incident last week. According to the affidavit, he is accused of raping a 17-year-old girl.

According to the Wood County prosecutor, Clinton was convicted in 1999 of involuntary manslaughter for the strangulation death of a Fostoria teen and assaulting a police officer. Clinton served a 13-year sentence and was released from prison in February when he met Heather Jackson.
