ERIE COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) - A grand jury indicted the man accused in a triple homicide, as well as a rape case.
Curtis Clinton, 41, was indicted by an Erie County grand jury Wednesday afternoon for allegedly strangling to death Heather Jackson, 23, her 3-year-old daughter, and 18-month-old son. The indictment also includes a rape charge for the sexual assault of the 3-year-old and a case involving the rape of a 17-year-old girl five days prior.
It did not take the jury long to hand down the indictment containing five counts of aggravated murder, three counts of rape, aggravated burglary, as well as a variety of specifications, including the death penalty, violent sexual predator, repeat violent offender.
"The reason why we have five counts is there are two types of aggravated murders that he was indicted for for each child," said Erie County Prosecutor Kevin Baxter.
Jackson and her two young children were found dead inside their Sandusky home Sept. 8. According to the Erie County Coroner, they all died of ligature strangulation. An autopsy report revealed the 3-year-old suffered injuries consistent with a sexual assault.
On Tuesday, Clinton pleaded not guilty in Sandusky Municipal Court. His bond originally was set at $3,025,000.
The next step is for Clinton to be arraigned at Erie County Court.
