TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Toledo Fire Department coordinated a simulation of a terrorist threat at Lucas County Recreation Center Wednesday. National Guard civil support units were here from Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Indiana.
They simulated a terrorist threat to a large number of people. The hazmat units entered the Ned Skelton Stadium, entered the men's restroom and found the hazardous material inside.
The Ohio Civil Support Hazmat Unit has been up to Toledo a few times for "real world incidents".
"We want to maintain our skill set, so we want to maintain our proficiencies. We also want to get out to a lot of the cities, the bigger cities and make those partnerships," said Lt. Col. Jeff Sulver, 52nd Civil Support Team Ohio.
"We're hoping first off to build the relationships, to put a name to the teams, so in the event that we do have a real world incident, we already know each other," said Dep. Chieg Thomas Jaksetic, Toledo Fire Department.
The exercise will continue Thursday at the Lucas County Recreation Center.
