SLYVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) - Boston terrier Leroy has been returned to his owners after being stolen from the Griffey's Sylvania Township home Monday.
Owner Rebecca Griffey said they had devoted friends and family track down the van that was spotted in their driveway when Leroy went missing. The van was spotted outside a Sylvania Township home.
The Sylvania Township police were contacted, but were not able to act right away.
Leroy's owners went to the house Thursday night. The Griffey's knew who took their puppy. The people who stole the dog said they needed money to pay off debts, and knew they could sell a Boston terrier puppy for a decent amount of money.
Instead of pressing charges, the owners got Leroy back and brought him home. The family said now that it is all said and done, they are just glad the story has a happy ending.
"We are so glad that it is over and that it worked out so positively. My daughter slept well for the first time in a week, and so did I. I'm just glad that we can kind of, close this chapter of our life. And we're very lucky I think to have him back," said dog owner Rebecca Griffey.
The Griffey's said they have learned a lesson from this event and have bumped up their home security.
