TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - North Baltimore native, Kimberlie Gustwiller has been arrested for faking cancer and collecting donations from the public. The community took action after hearing Gustwiller had been diagnosed for a second time.
The entire community had started raising money for Gustwiller holding fundraisers, silent auctions and even putting pink streaks in their hair to bring awareness.
A website was created where people could donate money to Gustwiller. $750 dollars has been collected so far and the goal was to reach $10,000. Another benefit was scheduled for October 20.
Police are still investigating the case but community members said they would never expect something like this from Gustwiller.
"When I was younger she had a lot to do with the community, and the football team and cheerleading and things like that. And she was such a sweet person, and she always seemed like she had such a bubbly disposition and it's just really disturbing that I mean she could do something like that," said Melinda Dukes.
The North Baltimore police suggest the public no longer make any donations to Gustwiller's cause. Police ask anyone that has made any contribution in the past to contact the police department.
Gustwiller is being held at the Wood County jail
