PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH (TOLEDO NEWS NOW) - Local Christians are being called on to stand up against hatred.
It's a dramatic response to the alleged Sunday arson at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo in Perrysburg Township.
This is all part of an ongoing billboard campaign sponsored by the Washington D.C. based group 'Sojourners.'
They've taken their message already to Missouri and Tennessee where mosques have come under attack.
The Perrysburg Township billboard will stand in the shadow of the Islamic Center along the I-75/475 intersection.
The billboard will read 'Love Your Muslim Neighbors."
"I'm a Christian and we are people of peace and we deplore any act of violence against one of your faith communities" says Pastor Cheri Holdridge of the Village Church.
She's also a member of 'Sojourners' and helping pay for the billboard.
"Our tenant of Christianity is to love your neighbor and the billboard says 'Love Your Muslim Neighbors.'
Indiana truck driver Randy Linn, 41, is charged with two counts of aggravated arson in connection with the Sunday fire in the prayer room of the mosque.
He's behind bars at the Wood County Jail.
"There's always people in our world who kind of stray from goodness and compassion and do these horrible acts. Usually I think it's because they have mental health problems," says Pastor Holdridge.
Dr. Mahjabeen Islam, President of the Islamic Center, is grateful for the billboard.
"This billboard from Christians across the country is another example that leaves me hopeful about our community's future," Pastor Holdridge adds.
"I think it can be a witness. Anything we can do to invite people to be more thoughtful about their actions is always a positive step."
The billboard and it's powerful message should be up in the next week to ten days.
