TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Police have arrested two juveniles linked to a carjacking and rape. The incident happened Tuesday morning at a woman's home on Starr Avenue and it appears some of it was caught on tape.
Surveillance video shows at 6:11 a.m. a car pulls into a driveway, a door opens, and a male voice yelling "get out of the car" can faintly be heard.
Police say a 15-year-old was pointing a handgun at the victim and was dropped off by a 17-year-old accomplice. A white truck can be seen pulling out of the driveway about a minute after the yelling.
There is silence for the next four minutes or so in the video, which police say is when the woman was being raped by the 15-year-old suspect. The victim says he tried to get her to go elsewhere but she stayed put.
Police say that is the smart thing to do.
"That makes it even more dangerous for yourself. In a case like that, it's usually better just to feign some type of illness, like a heart attack, but do not go with them. Your chances of survival really go down if you go with them," explained Sgt. Joe Heffernan with the Toledo Police Department.
The juvenile then took off with the victim's Ford Focus.
The victim can then be heard running to her neighbor's house, knocking on the door and pleading for help. That is when they called police.
"As horrific as the crime was, the victim was able to keep a cool head and get some good descriptions," said Heffernan.
Later that night, police found someone who matched the description near the victim's car in north Toledo. He was arrested after a slight struggle. One officer was injured but is expected to be alright.
The suspect's 17-year-old accomplice was also arrested for obstructing justice and outstanding warrants.
The 15-year-old is being charged with aggravated robbery and rape.
