TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Students, parents and teachers in the Washington Local School district gathered Monday evening for the 23rd annual Candlelight Walk for a Drug Free Community. Leaders say the event is intended to teach kids the importance of saying no to drugs and alcohol.

"They see that their teachers are here and their councilor and principal and superintendent and we're all saying the same message, and that's really important for them to hear and then when their parents come it's just great," said Molly Mueller, a school counselor at Wernert Elementary.

Parents and students agree that the event is a valuable teaching tool.

"Just so she knows it's not good to do drugs and alcohol because it causes a lot of problems in life and could get you in trouble and you could hurt yourself and other people," said parent Vincent Vargas.
