HOLLAND, OH (Toledo News Now) - Lucas County Sheriff's deputies were called to a shooting on Clarion Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
Around 3:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a person shot call in the 600 block of Clarion Avenue. Upon arrival, medical responders began treating the victim, Gilbert Boerio, in the backyard of the property.
Several witnesses were present.
When police arrived, a male witness told them a man fled from the scene over a fence at the rear of the property. He described the suspect as a black male with long black hair wearing black pants and a black carhart-style jacket.
Another witness said he was at the front of the property when the incident occurred, and heard a gunshot in the rear of the property. When he went to go look he discovered Boerio. He said he had been involved in a physical altercation with the victim approximately one hour prior to the shooting incident. He said he struck Boerio in the head and was struck by Boerio in the mouth. He went on to say that blood, which was visible on the deck at the back of the residence, was caused during the physical altercation with Boerio. He said he did not need medical attention.
A third witness said he was at the front of the property when he heard a gunshot. When he went to the backyard to look, he observed people fleeing the scene and saw people on the adjacent property as he entered the backyard.
Other witnesses heard the gunshot, but did not see any suspects.
Boerio was transported to a hospital. There is no word on his condition.
Afterwards, a unit was driving down Angola near McCord in search of possible suspects. Officers then noticed a subject on a red bicycle heading westbound on Angola matching the description of wearing dark clothing.
As the patrol car approached the subject, he jumped off the bike and ran into the woods. He was unable to be found after a search of the area.
The bike was taken in as evidence.
No arrests have been made. The investigation continues.
