TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Lucas County is teaming up with the City of Toledo, the Metroparks of the Toledo Area and the Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District on a joint cooperation agreement for improvements to the University Parks Trail.
The trail stretches 5.9 miles from Secor Rd. to King Rd. and the agreement spells out terms for a $732,000 improvement project, with the entities splitting the cost of a $177,000 local match to use $555,000 in federal funding.
Many sections of the trail pavement will be resurfaced and the existing safety rails will be replaced with new rails which meet ODOT standards.
Considering the trail pavement is 20 years old, project organizers say those repairs are needed.
"There's complaints that have come in regarding the ride quality of the surface. It's deteriorating. The resurfacing that will go down will be appreciated by the cyclists and rollerblading that's out there," said Ron Myers with the Lucas County Engineer's office.
The work is expected to start in the summer of 2013 and finish in the fall.
