TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Toledo Public School is asking voters to vote in favor of Issue 20.
A 10 year 4.9 mill levy will cost a homeowner with a $100,000 home $150 per year and $90 for someone that owns a $60,000 home.
The district has been trying to put a band aid on a deficit problem for the last three years and they need help from the voters.
"We've just about run out of room for cuts, we've done everything that a district can do short of eliminating their art, music and PE," said Dr. Jerome Pecko with Toledo Public Schools.
TPS educates 23,000 young children. By restructuring and improving schools and adding more programs, officials say money generated will help with that and everyday operations.
Lisa Myers is principal at Bowsher High School. Myers sees firsthand how money and resources benefit TPS students.
Myers said she is afraid of the possibilities that a failed levy could mean less teachers, larger class sizes and cut programs.
"You cannot put a price on a child's education. We never know where a child is going to go once they leave us. All we can do is give them the best opportunities possible." said Myers
