TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The much-anticipated McCord Road underpass project is moving forward as the Lucas County Engineer is seeking approval to acquire three parcels of property for right-of-way for the $27 million project.
With around 100 trains per day moving along the Norfolk-Southern line and more train volume expected in the future, Keith Earley said it is important for the project to become a reality, to save drivers time and gas in the future, by eliminating a busy rail crossing and diverting traffic under the tracks.
Earley said important pre-construction work needs to get done to move the project forward.
"The process is moving forward. After right-of-way is obtained you have to relocate utilities before the construction can start, so there's a lot of work prior to letting the project," said Earley.
Once work begins, Earley predicts it will take around three years to build the underpass. Construction is currently targeted to begin in early 2014.
