Overwhelming support from the community, including businesses, media, celebrity bell ringers and a match from The Andersons, resulted in The Salvation Army exceeding its goal for the 2012 Red Kettle Campaign.
The Salvation Army's 2012 Red Kettle campaign collected $572,601, which surpassed the goal of $570,000.
The grand total includes Red Kettle campaign results from all five counties The Salvation Army Northwest Ohio Services serves: Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, Henry, and Fulton. The money stays in the community where it was raised.
Because the need increases every year, so must the effort. During the 2012 season, The Andersons offered a $10,000 dollar-for-dollar match Dec. 13 through 15.
Local media provided celebrity bell ringers, such as Toledo Mud Hens mascots Muddy and Spike, at key locations and encouraged support from listeners and viewers.
