FREMONT, OH (Toledo News Now) – The Fremont Fire Department currently has more submitted applications than they have seen in over 20 years.
Just over 90 people have submitted applications to the department to become firefighters. They normally only receive 25 applications in a good year, according to Chief Dave Foos.
"I'm excited about it," he said. "Obviously the larger the pool of applicants we have, the higher the chance we have of a larger group of qualified individuals. Part of my job is to make sure that we get the most value for the dollar from our employees for the safety of the citizens of Fremont."
Applications are coming from out of state and locally. This increase may be due to many communities facing layoffs and cuts to their safety departments.
Applicants will take the physical portion of the required test this Saturday.
Anyone interested in applying still has time – the deadline is Friday. Click here for more information.
