Station Number One will be demolished and rebuilt starting in March.
SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH
(Toledo News Now) – Sylvania Township has unveiled plans for the new Fire
Station Number One.
The township trustees have
approved legislation to solicit bids for construction of the new building. The
station will be built on Monroe Street, near Main, where the current building
"It has served the
community well where it's at right now," explained Deputy Chief Michael
Froelich, of the Sylvania Township Fire Department. "This was probably the best
spot that could be found without disrupting the lives of a lot of people."
The new building will
feature three truck bays, sleeping quarters, a training area, and a modern
kitchen. It will replace a building that was built in the 1930s.
Station Number One is the
last of three stations to be replaced with funding from a 1.25-mill levy
approved by voters in 2008.
Demolition of the current
building will begin in March. Station operations will be moved to a nearby
vacant bus garage during construction. Froelich said local safety and response
times should not be affected.
