For the third time in less than a week, Springfield firefighters are working to put out a fire on Locust Street.
"Real scary, especially when there's no school and the kids are out here. It's crazy," said neighbor, Andre Vazquez.
Vazquez lives nearby the scene of three suspicious fires on Locust street. He and other neighbors are starting to worry.
After three fires, windows are now smashed through and charred. Firefighters not wanting to risk injury fought Monday's fire defensively from the outside.
The arson and bomb squad is on scene investigating.
But officials say a fire here Sunday night was intentionally set.
"That fire last night was a set fire - an arson fire - but it was contained to a bedroom," said Executive Aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, Dennis Leger.
Fire officials say there have been complaints from neighbors about vagrants living in the abandoned complex.
The buildings were closed down a year and a half ago because of housing and fire code violations.
Now building inspectors are looking to get them torn down.
"We have some city people here also that are going to look into trying to get the building torn down. There's numerous holes in there that have been chopped through, burnt through, we don't want anybody getting hurt, this thing needs to come down," Leger said.
Now residents like Vazquez are worried, living close by the building.
"We just seen all this on fire and this is the first time we've seen something like this before," Vazquez said.
