The Lucas County CommissionersTOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – The
Toledo-Lucas County Health Department is seeking funding for important
community health-monitoring programs.
Toledo-Lucas County Health Commissioner Dr.
David Grossman presented his case to the county commissioners Tuesday.
Grossman stressed the importance that the
county continue funding a tuberculosis(TB)-monitoring program, which would cost
about $40,000. He said the number of TB cases has increased from seven in 2011
to 11 cases during the first three-quarters of 2012.
"Because of the ability for TB to spread so
easily, it can be quiet," he said. "If it's not controlled it can spread
throughout the community. It's a disease, unfortunately, which covers all
strata of society…It can be anywhere, any time."
Grossman also stressed the importance of the
county providing $100,000 in funding for expanding the health department's
water quality-monitoring, which includes testing of wells and septic tanks.
