When Jodie Foster recently had a "coming out" of sorts at the Golden Globes, it made headlines.
Now a high school senior from Parsippany, New Jersey is doing the same thing - in the same way.
As Jacob Rudolph was awarded an award for "Class Actor" at a ceremony, he stepped up to the podium and admitted to his classmates that he was gay.
"Sure I've been in a few plays and musicals, but more importantly, I've been acting every single day of my life," he said to a cheering crowd that soon turns to whispers.
"You see, I've been acting as someone I'm not."
The video, posted on YouTube by his dad, shows that Jacob received a standing ovation from his classmates.
Jacob's dad writes at the end of the video, "The reaction of the students is testimony to the progress we've made in our society to respect everyone."
