Emma Bonawitt (shown wearing the crown) celebrated her 100th birthday Wednesday.
Senior Star at West Park Place Retirement Community hosted a centennial birthday party for Emma Bonawitt Wednesday.
In Emma's 100 years, she has witnessed revolutionary changes such as transportation going from horse and wagon to automobiles and airplanes, plus new washing machines and phones evolving from land lines to private lines on cell phones.
Emma married John Franklin Bonawitt, a hardworking WWII veteran on Aug. 4, 1947. They lived a quiet, happy life in Toledo with John going to work and Emma tending the house and vegetable garden. Emma was also an accomplished seamstress. She and John shared a love of playing cards with family and neighbors. Together, Emma and John were longtime fans of the Toledo Mud Hens and attended many games.
John died in 1997 at the age of 84. They were married more than 50 years.
Emma has been a member of St. Clemons Catholic Church in Toledo and remains friends with people she has met there over the years.
