The
approval rating for Congress is wallowing around 10 percent.
That
means nine out of every 10 people disapprove of the job Congress is
doing.
Here's
an example of the kind of Congressional chicanery that earns 10 percent
approval ratings:
Hurricane
Sandy does $30-50 billion dollars worth of damage to the Northeast
coastline. Clearly federal relief is needed, so a Hurricane Sandy Relief
Bill is created.
You
would think the money in the bill would be directed to provide help to the victims. Well,
yes and no.
For many of the Congressional members this, was a
golden opportunity to procure millions for pet projects. So we find money
earmarked for road repairs anywhere in the United States, $17 billion for a
Community Development Fund, $150 million for Alaskan fisheries, $8 million for
new cars for Homeland Security, and on and on!
The
pork is piled on so high that the true purpose of the bill, providing clean-up
and insurance relief for actual hurricane victims, becomes a ruse instead of a
reality.
Given
this dazzling example of Congressional arrogance, a 10 percent approval rating
just might be too high.
